So you want to know a bit about me? OK. I’ll do a quick synopsis… I grew up with a love for drama, and by way of Hull University drama department and a Masters in Applied Theatre at Manchester University (oh yeah, not just a pretty voice), I went on to the accredited Oxford School of Drama.
During the ‘resting’ periods in my acting career, I turned my hand to writing, and I’ve now been copywriting for 14 years. Alongside this, I’ve been voiceovering too, and have my own rustic but effective home recording set up.
My most important role to date is that of “mummy” and I am lucky to fit my work around the demands of my child-master. Intent on beating me at my own game, my little boy has now started his own voiceover career. You can listen to our powerhouse combo in the Mother & Child Reel in the Listen section. (For bookings for my son, Gillen, please contact his agent Julie at Loud and Clear Voices.)
So you’re a writer AND a voiceover artist then, Laura? Why is that good?
Well, the combination of writing and voiceover can be ideal for companies who either need script edits on the fly whilst they are being read to make them sound more natural or to push a certain focus, or indeed, for businesses to get a full package of scripts and voiceover from just one person (me). I have also written the majority of scripts used in my demos, so you can get an idea of my writing as a read medium for a range of different genres. You can find out more under the Services section.
At this point you might be wondering what I actually sound like? Well, my natural speaking voice is like a lovely hug. It’s warm, reassuring, and confident, and in the 30s-40s age bracket, making it perfect for corporate work and commercials. I have an English RP accent, but as a trained actress (Oxford School of Drama), I am versatile and excellent at character work, meaning I can age up or down and turn my hand to different accents and vocal styles, which is ideal for drama, gaming and animation. And if all that doesn’t mean much, get my voice direct into your ears instead, and check out my reels for a virtual hug!
